University of Mary Washington, Assistant Coach (F/T 10 months)

This is a 10 month annual position. Will assist in managing and directing the Women’s Lacrosse program by performing responsible program building including but not limited to; relationship building, planning, coaching, recruiting, assist in teaching PHYD 411, and administrative work assigned by Head Coach along with other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Work is performed under general supervision of the Head Coach and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

  • To provide a quality student-athlete experience that is safe, nurturing, and instills the values of leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • To maximize available resources and identify new funding opportunities.
  • To align with the mission of the University and serve as a prominent advocate for the University.

Required KSAs / Competencies / Qualifications to successfully perform their work

  • Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes.
  • A proven record in following directives and being responsible for tasks which have been assigned.
  • Ability to scout opponents and break down game tapes, develop scouting and highlight reels.
  • Ability to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the university, the Capital Athletic Conference and the NCAA.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively – orally, by phone, in person, and in writing with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
  • Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.

Preferred KSA's / Competencies / Qualifications to successfully perform the work

  • Ability and desire to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed.
  • Ability to attend seminars, meetings and other professional development opportunities at or away from UMW.
  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility and provide direct training and supervision as needed.
  • Ability to apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional and effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively – orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
  • Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.

Required Education
Undergraduate degree.

Required Experience
Experience playing on a Lacrosse team at the collegiate level.

Preferred Experience
Previous coach experience.
