2018 IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll – April 9, 2018
With 21 first-place votes, Stony Brook University (12-0) remained atop the Division I Coaches Poll this week. Maryland (12-1), Boston College (14-0), James Madison (11-1), and North Carolina (9-3) all held their rankings to round out the top five. Florida (10-3) and Northwestern (11-3) each moved up a spot to land at six and seven, after last week’s sixth ranked team, Virginia (8-5), tumbled out of the top-ten. Towson (10-2) and Penn (9-2) each jumped two places to come in at eight and nine respectively. Loyola (9-3) remains in the tenth position after a 1-1 week that saw them lose a 12-11 overtime thriller to Syracuse, before beating Navy 16-12. The lower half of the poll featured a lot of shuffling of positions, but only one new team – Georgetown (8-4) climbed back into the Top-25 after beating Denver 8-7.
There are a few early top-25 games this week, as Duke (#18) travels to High Point (#24) on Monday and #19 Princeton hosts #2 Maryland on Tuesday. The weekend kicks off on Friday, as #12 Stanford, and #16 Colorado face off in a key Pac-12 matchup, while top-ranked Stony Brook welcomes #22 Johns Hopkins to campus. Saturday’s action includes conference tilts between #3 Boston College and Virginia Tech (#14), Penn State (#17) and #7 Northwestern, and #15 Syracuse and #5 North Carolina. The lone game between ranked opponents on Sunday is between Duke and Notre Dame (#21).
