IWLCA Fast Break Players of the Week – May3, 2017
The IWLCA is pleased to announce the Fast Break Players of the Week for May 3, 2017:
Division I Offensive Player of the Week – Taryn Ohlmiller, Stony Brook
Ohlmiller racked up 10 goals and five assists in the Seawolves’ wins over Hofstra and U-Mass Lowell last week. The freshman leads all Division I rookies with 82 points on the season.
Division I Defensive Player of the Week – Catie Smith, Cornell
Smith led the Big Red defense to a 13-6 win against Harvard last week. She tallied three ground balls, one draw control and five caused turnovers to help Cornell secure a share of the Ivy League regular season title and the right to host the tournament as the top seed.
Division II Offensive Player of the Week – Hannah Lindgren, Bentley
Lindgren put up 14 points for Bentley in a 1-1 week. She posted five goals and three assists in a win against St. Michael’s, and added five goals and an assist against #10 New Haven.
Division II Defensive Player of the Week – Hailey Peterson, Adelphi
Peterson led the Panthers to two wins last week, holding opponents to a 1.66 goals against average for the week as her squad finished the regular season at 15-1. The junior netminder leads the NE10 in save percentage and goals against average.
Division III Offensive Player of the Week – Mary O’Connell, Middlebury
O’Connell posted six goals and an assist in two wins last week, and the Panthers took down Williams in the NESCAC regular season finale and then defeated Amherst in the conference tournament quarterfinals. The senior attacker added four ground balls, three draw controls, and a caused turnover to the team effort.
Division III Defensive Player of the Week – Elizabeth Morrison, College of New Jersey
Morrison anchored a defense that just six goals in two games last week, including a shutout of Stockton. Morrison’s stat line included three ground balls, six caused turnovers, and 14 draw controls for the top-ranked Lions.
Players from each NCAA Division are chosen as the Fast Break Players of the Week and announced during the broadcast of “Fast Break: IWLCA College Lacrosse Weekly” on Lax Sports Network. The show will air at 7:30 pm EDT on Wednesdays throughout the season.
