Elkridge, MD (August 30, 2016) -- The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), working in conjunction with Corrigan Sports Enterprises, Inc. (CSE), announced it will merge its Midwest and Western Cup recruiting tournaments in 2017. The revised IWLCA JUNK Brands Midwest Cup will be contested July 8-9, 2017 at the new Mercy Sportscore 2 complex in Loves Park, Illinois.
Alicia Groveston, IWLCA President and head coach at Grand Valley State University, said, “By condensing our tournaments in those regions we feel the IWLCA can offer a more diverse and competitive event at a brand new location with outstanding playing conditions. Sportscore boasts 26 fields, including 6 turf fields, and has already garnered national recognition for hosting numerous tournaments across multiple sports.”
The new location, easily accessed by car or plane, allows teams from the West, Midwest, and Central United States to converge at a top-notch facility with Chicago’s O’Hare airport serving as a hub.
“The Rockford region is honored to welcome the IWLCA in July 2017 for another highly-regarded girls lacrosse tournament,” said Nick Povalitis, Sports Destination and Sales Manager, GoRockford Sports. “Alongside the operations staff at Mercy Sportscore 2, the GoRockford Team will craft a memorable experience for all players, coaches and guests. Our team’s pride in its hospitality and facilities will serve as the foundation for our partnership with Corrigan Sports.”
The tournament will feature student-athletes from the graduating classes of 2018-2020. Online registration for the event will open the week of October 17th.
The sport’s skyrocketing popularity is reflected in the growth of the IWLCA Recruiting Tournaments over the last three years. In addition to witnessing tournament field sizes triple, more college coaches have witnessed game action first-hand than ever before. An average of 230 college coaches traveled to each IWLCA sanctioned tournament in 2016.
