IWLCA Announces 2024 Trina Mangano Recipients

The IWLCA is excited to announce that the Officials Recruitment and Development Committee has selected five individuals to receive the 2024 Trina Mangano Scholarship based on their attendance at a College Player Officials Academy (CPOA) event and their commitment to pursuing officiating opportunities in the game. The recipients are Kym Ardrey, Sara Grieco, Kylie Kearon, Adanya Moyer, and Kendall Puls.

"We are thrilled to have this officiating group on the field with the rising stars of the game—keeping it safe and helping to make it the game we know and love,” stated Stephanie Allen, Binghamton University Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach and Chair of the Officials Recruitment and Development Committee. “The game of women’s lacrosse continues to evolve, and this year’s Trina Mangano scholarship recipients exemplify a dedication to our growing sport and a commitment to maintaining its integrity. We are pleased to honor them as the 2024 scholarship recipients and hope to see them on the field for years to come.”

Kym Ardrey, a native of Charlotte, N.C., is a graduate defender from Lindenwood University, where she earned Second-Team All-ASUN honors in her final season. “Knowing how much the sport has given me over the years, I am excited to give back in a new and meaningful way,” added Ardrey. “I look forward to helping athletes find the balance between playing safely and competitively!”

Joining Ardrey on this year’s recipient list is former teammate, attacker Sara Grieco. “I am so grateful for this opportunity,” stated Grieco when informed about her selection. “I am very excited to have an impact on the next generation of lacrosse athletes. Lacrosse has always been such a huge part of my life and I am excited to be able to give back.” Grieco concluded her collegiate career last season as a member of the ASUN All-Academic Team and finished second on her team in points for the 2024 season. She also led the team with 40 assists.

As a junior attacker at Haverford College, Kylie Kearon has been instrumental in the success of the Fords. "Coming from a state that is still underdeveloped in the lacrosse world, I’m so grateful to be given the opportunity to help grow the game," stated Kearon. With a total of 18 goals in 22 games played, Kearon is a key contributor to the team. Additionally, Kearon earned a place on the Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll last season.

Adanya Moyer, a senior goalkeeper at James Madison University, appeared in five crucial games for the Dukes last season, playing a total of 55:18 minutes and registering a career-high four saves against Temple on April 6, 2024. She was also named to the JMU Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete list this past spring.

Kendall Puls is a freshman midfielder at Siena Heights University. "I am honored to be a recipient of the Trina Mangano scholarship and to continue showing the same pride in women’s lacrosse officiating as she did,” said Puls. “Lacrosse officiating has given me the opportunity to grow my leadership skills and learn how to handle difficult situations. I hope to encourage girls' lacrosse players to get involved in the lacrosse community, especially in officiating. It is definitely needed in the Midwest to keep the sport growing."

Trina Mangano was a nationally and internationally rated official who served on the USL Training Committee, was a CWLOA trainer, and acted as the officials’ assignor for IWLCA recruiting events. She was instrumental in supporting the growth of the sport through her work in training officials. In honor of Trina’s commitment to developing women’s lacrosse officials and promoting their education, these scholarships serve as a fitting tribute to her dedication. “We focus on selecting candidates from diverse regions and backgrounds who want to give back to the game they love,” added Allen. “Our sport deserves the best officials who are eager to teach players sportsmanship and safety.”
