ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)
Assist the head coach with the following:
- Teaching the fundamentals of the sport by providing hands-on instruction to athletes to enhance skills and knowledge. Involves presenting verbal and written materials, demonstrating proper techniques, and providing feedback to enhance performance.
- Instruct team members individually and in groups and demonstrate game techniques. May manage a designated skill development area or group of positions (forwards, midfield, defenders, and goal keepers, etc.)
- Devising and implementing game strategies and position assignments and instructing student athletes accordingly.
- Takes an active role in game day strategy and instructing student athletes accordingly.
- Instruct athletes on physical health and safety.
- Plan practice sessions and game plans in accordance with NCAA and Conference regulations.
- Scouting opponents as necessary to teach appropriate game strategies to players.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruiting qualified student athletes which could include: travel to high schools and games, making and maintaining contact with high school coaches, and making personal contact with prospective student athletes.
- Assisting with team travel, which could include driving a van.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the sport, including skills and strategies of the game.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills to teach and otherwise communicate knowledge of the sport to student athletes.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills to interact with prospective students, parents, alumni, coaches and other members of the college and public.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills including writing and public speaking, promoting a positive image of the college.
- Must be/become certified in CPR and first aid techniques.
- Ability to support the entire college and its mission, as well as other sports, coaches and players inside the department.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Playing and/or coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with satisfactory motor vehicle record by insurance standards.
- Enrollment in a certified graduate program

Enrollment in the VCU Center for Sport Leadership program will give the applicant the best financial incentive.
