Randolph-Macon College, Graduate Assistant

Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a Women’s Lacross Graduate Assistant. The Physical Education Staff member will work to develop the mind and character of the student-athlete. Primary responsibility is to coach/teach student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition.  Student athletes receive academic credit for participation in the varsity athletic program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)

Assist the head coach with the following:

  • Teaching the fundamentals of the sport by providing hands-on instruction to athletes to enhance skills and knowledge.  Involves presenting verbal and written materials, demonstrating proper techniques, and providing feedback to enhance performance. 
  • Instruct team members individually and in groups and demonstrate game techniques.  May manage a designated skill development area or group of positions (forwards, midfield, defenders, and goal keepers, etc.)
  • Devising and implementing game strategies and position assignments and instructing student athletes accordingly.
  • Takes an active role in game day strategy and instructing student athletes accordingly.
  • Instruct athletes on physical health and safety.
  • Plan practice sessions and game plans in accordance with NCAA and Conference regulations.
  • Scouting opponents as necessary to teach appropriate game strategies to players.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruiting qualified student athletes which could include: travel to high schools and games, making and maintaining contact with high school coaches, and making personal contact with prospective student athletes. 
  • Assisting with team travel, which could include driving a van.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the sport, including skills and strategies of the game. 
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to teach and otherwise communicate knowledge of the sport to student athletes.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to interact with prospective students, parents, alumni, coaches and other members of the college and public.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills including writing and public speaking, promoting a positive image of the college.
  • Must be/become certified in CPR and first aid techniques.
  • Ability to support the entire college and its mission, as well as other sports, coaches and players inside the department.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Playing and/or coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with satisfactory motor vehicle record by insurance standards. 
  • Enrollment in a certified graduate program

  • Applicants are encouraged to apply to the VCU Center for Sport Leadership at the same time they send their information to Coach Geratowski; however, enrollment in another certified graduate program can be approved as well. Enrollment in the VCU Center for Sport Leadership program will give the applicant the best financial incentive.
