IWLCA Players of the Week – May 30, 2023

 

The IWLCA has chosen seven student-athletes for the IWLCA Player of the Week awards for the week ending May 28, 2023. This weekly award recognizes the best offensive and defensive performances by Divisions I and III players during the final week of postseason play.

Division I

Offensive Player of the Week

Izzy Scane – Northwestern University

Scane set the school’s career (288) and single-season (99) goal record on the same goal in the No. 1 Wildcat’s Championship Title win over No. 2 Boston College. She finished with a tally of four goals and two assists against the Eagles. Prior to her title game performance, Scane dropped an eight-point effort (six goals, two assists) in Northwestern’s semifinal defeat over No. 6 University of Denver. She earned tournament Most Valuable Player as the Wildcats earned their program’s eighth national title and first since 2012. Scane has been named the IWLCA Player of the Week five times this season.

Defensive Player of the Week

Samantha White – Northwestern University

En route to a National Title, White played a pivotal role in Northwestern’s defensive stance. Against No. 2 Boston College, White recorded six ground balls, three caused turnovers, and seven draw controls. She added four grounded balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover in the semifinal against Denver. White was also named to the NCAA Division I All-Tournament team for her efforts. Northwestern finished this season with a 21-1 overall record and ranked No. 1 for the final ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll.


Division III

Offensive Player of the Week

Hope Shue – Middlebury College

After capturing the 2023 NCAA Division III National Title, Shue was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for her outstanding play during Middlebury’s championship run. She recorded seven goals and one assist in the title game against No. 9 Gettysburg College, four goals and three assists in the semifinal win over No. 8 Franklin and Marshall College. Middlebury concluded its season with a perfect 23-0 record and adds its fourth national title to its records. The Panthers also ranked No. 1 in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division III Poll for the entire duration of the 2023 season.

Defensive Player of the Week

Erica Barr – Middlebury College

Barr is awarded for her outstanding defensive presence that guided Middlebury to a program’s ninth national title, its fourth under the direction of Head Coach Kate Livesay. The senior was named to the NCAA Division III All-Tournament team after combining for 10 draw controls, nine caused turnovers, and five ground balls.
