IWLCA Players of the Week – April 11, 2023


The IWLCA has chosen eight student-athletes for the IWLCA Player of the Week awards for the week ending April 9, 2023. This weekly award recognizes the best offensive and defensive performances by players in Division I, II, III, and the NAIA each week during the regular season.

Division I

Offensive Player of the Week

Cassidy Weeks – Boston College

Weeks delivered the game-winning goal with 12 seconds left, completing a four-goal comeback to help lead No. 7 Boston to a 12-11 road win over No. 8 Notre Dame. She recorded a total of three points (two goals, one assist), three draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers in the matchup.

Defensive Player of the Week

Abby Bosco – University of Maryland

Bosco’s all-around game helped lead No. 10 Maryland to a pair of wins over Johns Hopkins University and Ohio State University, totaling six groundballs, seven caused turnovers, and 11 draw controls over the two matchups. Against Ohio State, she tallied seven draw controls, four groundballs, and four caused turnovers, all game-highs, while holding Ohio State to just seven goals and 16 shots. She caused a game-high three turnovers, won four draw controls, and picked up two groundballs against Johns Hopkins. Her defensive presence helped hold Johns Hopkins to only one goal over the final eight minutes of the game to help the Terps comeback from down 11-10. Bosco currently ranks second in the Big Ten Conference in caused turnovers (31) and third in groundballs (34) on the season. 

Division II

Offensive Player of the Week

Sarah Hinkle – University of Tampa

In the 15-14 upset win at home over No. 4 Florida Southern College, Hinkle tallied four goals on five shots with all five shots being on target. In addition, Hinkle tallied 10 draw controls and two groundballs. Hinkle then went on to score a career-high six goals on six total shots in the road win over Palm Beach Atlantic University. She went 1-1 on free position attempts and added one groundball, one draw control, and one caused turnover as well. Between the two games, she averaged a shooting percentage of 90.0 and totaled a shots-on-goal percentage of 100.0.

Defensive Player of the Week

Leah Knowles – Wingate University

Knowles posted seven caused turnovers while adding five ground balls, six draw controls to go along with two goals, and an assist in No. 10 Wingate’s 13-6 win over Anderson University. Knowles is currently third in the nation in caused turnovers per game with 3.21.  

Division III

Offensive Player of the Week

Maddie Wright – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth

Wright was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week after she scored a game-high eight goals with two assists for 10 points in the Corsairs' 20-3 league victory over Rhode Island College. Of her 10 shots, nine were on goal. She also had four ground balls, a caused turnover, and a game-best 10 draw controls. This is her third LEC Offensive Player of the Week award, and fifth LEC Rookie of the Week honor this season.  

Defensive Player of the Week

Kaitlyn Hunsinger – Salisbury University

Hunsinger turned in her third double-digit save performance of the season in the No. 6 Sea Gulls’ 11-5 win over No. 8 York College of Pennsylvania. Hunsinger tallied 11 saves and allowed just five goals to improve her goals-against average to 7.85 on the season. The goalkeeper also caused a turnover and picked up three ground balls in the contest. This is Hunsinger's third IWLCA Player of the Week honor this season.  


Offensive Player of the Week

Clarke Haas – Savannah College of Art and Design

Haas had a game-high five goals and one assist for a game-high six points as No. 7 SCAD upset SUN Conference opponent No. 4 Life University on Thursday, taking down the Running Eagles 14-11. This is her third game in a row, and fourth of the season, where Haas has scored five goals. This is Haas's second IWLCA Player of the Week honor this season.

Defensive Player of the Week

Lorna Fowles – Savannah College of Art and Design

Fowles came up big for the Bees as the freshman goalie totaled 14 saves as No. 7 SCAD upset No. 4 Life in a SUN Conference match-up last Thursday.
