IWLCA Players of the Week – February 15, 2022

 

The IWLCA has chosen eight student-athletes for the IWLCA Player of the Week awards for the week ending February 13, 2022. This weekly award recognizes the best offensive and defensive performances by players in Division I, II, III, and the NAIA each week during the regular season.

Division I

Offensive Player of the Week

Charlotte North – Boston College

North opened to the season with seven goals and one assist for eight points in the Eagles’ 18-9 win over No. 4 Northwestern at home. North scored five of her goals in the second half. She finished with an impressive .818 shot on goal percentage (9-of-11). North, the 2021 Tewaraaton Award winner, added 12 draw controls and a ground ball to the winning cause, helping Boston College maintain the top spot in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll.

Defensive Player of the Week

Annie Carroll – Temple University

Carroll made 12 saves in Temple’s 16-5 win over Army last weekend. She added two ground balls and a caused turnover for the Owls, ranked No. 22 in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll this week. Carroll's 80% save percentage is the best single-game performance since Temple began recording the stat in 2010.


Division II

Offensive Player of the Week

Maria Palomba – Saint Leo University

Maria Palomba won 30 draw controls in the Lions’ 1-1 week. She earned back-to-back single-game program record draw controls winning 15 at No. 7 Florida Southern in a 13-7 loss and collected another 15 in a 20-10 win over Alabama-Huntsville. The freshman added three points with a pair of goals and an assist, two caused turnovers, and six ground balls on the week. Saint Leo was ranked No. 23 in the the ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Preseason Poll.

Defensive Player of the Week

Bailey Stumpf – Limestone University

Stumpf led the Saints’ defensive efforts in a 14-8 win over Montevallo last week. The sophomore All-American caused four turnovers, grabbed three draw controls, and tallied a game-high eight ground balls. Limestone was ranked No. 13 in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Preseason Poll.


Division III

Offensive Player of the Week

Keegan Foyles – Methodist University

Foyles tied the team-high in goals for both games this past week. In a 12-11 overtime win against St. Andrews, she registered four goals and two assists, and contributed three goals and an assist in the 10-13 loss to Virginia Wesleyan. The junior attacker also chipped in with one ground ball and a caused turnover to help the Monarchs to a 1-1 start. All 11 of her shots were on goal.

Defensive Player of the Week

Mary Claire Hisle – Salisbury University

Hisle led the Salisbury defense with a dominating second-half performance in a season-opening 15-5 win over Stevenson. The senior goalkeeper recorded seven saves in the victory, Hisle only allowed one goal in the second half and held Stevenson scoreless for the final 28 minutes of the game. Salisbury is the defending NCAA Champion and entered the season ranked No. 1 in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division III Preseason Poll. 


NAIA

Offensive Player of the Week

Kate Gauntlett – Montreat College

Gauntlett tied the program record for points in a game with 12 (6g, 6a) in the 27-5 win over Brenau before adding five goals and three assists to help Montreat knock off NCAA Division II opponent, Lees McRae, 15-14 in overtime. The junior attacker added three ground balls and a caused turnover to help the Cavaliers open with a 2-0 record.

Defensive Player of the Week

Carlie Henning – Montreat College

Henning keyed Montreat’s upset victory over Lees-McRae, registering four stops in the fourth quarter, including two on free position attempts. The junior goalkeeper made 10 total saves and utilized long passes to spring the attack throughout the game. One of those long outlet passes resulted in a breakaway goal for the Cavaliers as Henning recorded her first assist of the season. Henning added five saves in the Brenau victory and had three ground balls and a caused turnover last week.
