IWLCA Players of the Week – April 27, 2021

The IWLCA has chosen six NCAA student-athletes for the IWLCA Player of the Week awards for the week of April 19 – April 25, 2021. This weekly award recognizes the best offensive and defensive performances by players in Division I, II, and III each week during the regular season.

Offensive Player of the Week

Maggie Schneidereith – Johns Hopkins University

Schneidereith, a graduate student, posted 12 points in the Blue Jays’ two wins over #23 Michigan to help her team grab the number three seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The attacker scored nine goals, dished out three assists, and picked up a couple of ground balls in the two games, as Hopkins finished the regular season with a 7-5 record and tied at 13 in the IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll.

Defensive Player of the Week

Megan Halczuk –University of Maryland, Baltimore County

Halczuk broke the UMBC single-game record for draw controls with 14 in a 27-16 win over Binghamton last weekend. The sophomore midfielder was all over the stat sheet, contributing a goal, five assists, three ground balls, and four caused turnovers. Halczuk currently ranks eighth in the nation in draw controls per game (8.40) and was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week yesterday.

Offensive Player of the Week

Lindsey Brinkel – Roberts Wesleyan College

Brinkel tallied five goals and five assists in Roberts Wesleyan’s two wins last week. The Redhawks improves to 11-0 by beating then #8 Grand Valley State, 12-9, and Bridgeport, 23-2. The senior attacker also chipped in a ground ball and two caused turnovers in the games to help Roberts Wesleyan jump five spots to land at #16 in this week’s IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll.

Defensive Player of the Week

Allie Collins – Assumption University

Collins led the defensive effort for the Greyhounds, as they went 2-0, defeating #20 Saint Anselm 13-10 on Thursday and Franklin Pierce by the same score on Sunday. The junior goalkeeper recorded 11 saves and two ground balls in the first game and added 12 saves in the second game. Collins finished the week with a 53.5 save percentage, as Assumption improved to 7-2 and is currently ranked #14 in this week’s IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll.

Offensive Player of the Week

Hannah Lorenzen – SUNY Cortland

Lorenzen totaled 18 points on 12 goals and six assists and added 10 draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers in two wins last week. In a 14-12 win over Oneonta, Lorenzen scored a career-high 10 points on a career-best seven goals and three assists and also finished with eight draws, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. In a 16-9 victory at New Paltz on Saturday, the senior midfielder tallied five goals, three assists, and two draw controls. The Red Dragons are ranked #17 in this week’s IWLCA Division III Coaches Poll.

Defensive Player of the Week

Molly Laliberty – Tufts University

Laliberty saved 26 of the 33 shots she faced in two wins over the weekend to post a .788 save percentage. The junior netminder allowed just seven goals in 120 minutes for a 3.60 GAA. She made 11 saves, 1 ground ball, and one caused turnover in an 18-2 win over Bates on Saturday, including shutting out the Bobcats in the second half with six stops. In the Jumbos' 11-5 win at Division I Dartmouth on Sunday, she posted 14 saves, 13 ground balls, and 1 caused turnover The Jumbos are currently ranked third in the IWLCA Division III Coaches Poll and will host Wesleyan in the NESCAC Championship game this weekend.
