IWLCA Players of the Week – February 16, 2021

The IWLCA has chosen four NCAA student-athletes for the IWLCA Player of the Week awards for the week of February 8 – February 14, 2021. This weekly award recognizes the best offensive and defensive performances by players in Division I, II, and III each week during the regular season (Due to the limited number of Division III teams that played last week there are no Division III honorees this week).

Division I

Offensive Player of the Week

Izzy Scane – Northwestern University

Scane scored a career-high nine goals on 11 shots in the Wildcats’ 23-7 victory over Big Ten rival Ohio State this past weekend. The junior attacker added three assists and two ground balls in the win for #5 Northwestern.

Defensive Player of the Week

Taylor Moreno – University of North Carolina

Senior goalkeeper Taylor Moreno (1-0) went the distance in the cage for North Carolina, making 10 saves and allowing seven goals in the top-ranked Tar Heels’ 14-7 win over #6 Stony Brook on Sunday. After the Seawolves came out of halftime with three consecutive goals to cut North Carolina's advantage to 9-7 early in the second half, Moreno held the Seawolves scoreless for the final 23:28 of the contest.

Division II

Offensive Player of the Week

Kendall Wells – Wingate University

Wells scored 3 goals and a career-high four assists as the Bulldogs defeated Belmont Abbey 18-16 to move to 2-0 on the season. A graduate student, Wells is the all-time leading goal scorer in South Atlantic Conference history, and her performance on Saturday marked her 18th career game with at least five points.

Defensive Player of the Week

Leah Knowles – Wingate University

Knowles did a little bit of everything for Wingate on Saturday, as she led the Bulldogs with seven draw controls on the day, while also causing four turnovers and picking up three ground balls. The sophomore midfielder also added two goals and one assist in the 18-16 win over Belmont Abbey.
