Newberry College, Head Coach

The head coach reports to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for all aspects of coaching, recruiting, awarding athletic grants, scheduling, and managing the intercollegiate program within the policies of Newberry College, The South Atlantic Conference, and the NCAA Division II.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directly Responsible for the content and organization of the overall program.  All offenses, defenses, fundamentals and techniques, game strategies, and knowledge of all aspects of the sport.
  • Directly responsible for team and individual compliance to training rules and operating policies which govern their intercollegiate sport program.
  • Responsible for supporting the Newberry College and the NCAA Division II Strategic Plans
  • Responsible to provide input and work cooperatively with the Director of Athletics (or designee) in budgeting, requisitioning, accounting for and storing of all athletic equipment and supplies needed and used in the women’s lacrosse program.
  • Directly responsible for their own personal conduct and for that of their staff according to the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the College, Conference, and NCAA governing intercollegiate athletics.
  • Recognize that the Director of Athletics (or designee) is the head coach’s immediate supervisor in all matters pertaining to athletics.
  • Actively recruit academically and athletically talented student-athletes with the desire to earn a degree in accordance with the philosophy of Newberry College and in strict adherence to College, Conference, and NCAA regulations.
  • Constantly monitor, control, and supervise the conduct and behavior of the student-athletes in the women’s lacrosse program so as to reflect favorably on themselves, Newberry College, the Conference and NCAA.
  • Responsible for other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletics (or designee)

This is an exempt position.

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must have at least three years of relevant experience
  • A strong commitment to the NCAA Division II Strategic Plan
  • A working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Ability to support the goals and mission of the college
  • Ability and desire to support College functions
  • Must have a positive attitude
  • Must be a person of good integrity
  • Must be a good communicator
  • Must be knowledgeable and organized
  • Must be a leader
  • Must be fiscally responsible
  • Must be concerned with student-athlete welfare
  • Must be a team player
