IWLCA/StringKing Players of the Week – February 18, 2020

 

The IWLCA has chosen six NCAA student-athletes for the IWLCA/StringKing Player of the Week awards for the week of February 10-16, 2020. This weekly award recognizes the best offensive and defensive performances by payers in Division I, II, and III each week during the regular season.

Division I

Offensive Player of the Week

Shannon Kavanagh – University of Florida

Kavanagh recorded a career-high 8 goals against top-ranked Maryland, the second-highest single game goal total in program history. The 15-14 win broke Maryland's 86-game home winning streak, dating back to 2012. The junior midfielder scored the game winning with 49 seconds left and also added five draw controls and a ground ball to the Gators’ efforts.

Defensive Player of the Week

Sarah Reznick – University of Florida

Reznick posted a career-high 14 saves against the Terps, recording a .500 save percentage. The 14 saves are the third highest in a single game in program history. The redshirt freshman also picked up three groundballs in the win, pushing Florida to a 2-0 record. In her first two games, she has recorded 25 saves, the most for any Gator goalie in their first two games in the cage. 


Division II

Offensive Player of the Week

Peyton Romig – University of Indianapolis

Romig scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to knock off Florida Southern (#8) 15-14. Not only did she score the game winner, Romig secured the draw control in both overtimes, totaling 14 in the win. The junior midfielder netted a game-high four goals, a ground ball, and also caused two turnovers. The win over the Mocs is the highest-ranked win in UIndy program history.

Defensive Player of the Week

Kailey Broderick – Adelphi University

Broderick was responsible for three caused turnovers in a 17-7 season-opening win over Molloy College for the top-ranked Panthers. The junior defender also collected a career-high six ground balls to help Adelphi open the season with a bang.


Division III

Offensive Player of the Week

Sarah Perry – Randolph College

Perry's 11 goals set a new Randolph record for goals and points in a single game. She broke the previous program record of seven and also tied the Old Dominion Athletic Conference record for goals in a game. In addition to her offensive explosion, the junior midfielder grabbed 14 draw controls, four ground balls, and caused four turnovers in the 19-16 win over North Carolina Wesleyan.

Defensive Player of the Week

Logan Bulls – Sewanee: The University of the South

Bulls posted nine caused turnovers and 12 ground balls in two wins in SAA contests against Birmingham-Southern (18-7) and Oglethorpe (20-3) last weekend. Against BSC, the junior defender contributed seven of the team's caused turnovers and scooped six ground balls. Against Oglethorpe, Bulls had six ground balls, won three draw controls and forced two turnovers.
