Midwest Cup Honored as a 2019 Champion of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism

Sports Destination Management, the leading publication with the largest circulation of sports event planners and tournament directors in the sports tourism market, has announced the 2019 Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism.  Among the winners was the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Junk Brand Midwest Cup.

The girls high school club lacrosse tournament was held July 13-14 at the Stuarts Sports Complex in Aurora, IL. An official tournament of the IWLCA’s Recruiting Series, the event attracted 40 teams from 21 different states and generated an estimated economic impact of more than $300,000 for the region.

"We have always believed that the Midwest Cup is a critical piece of the IWLCA tournament puzzle, as it provides a regional showcase for one of the highest growth areas in our sport," said Kathy Taylor, IWLCA President and head coach at Colgate University. "It is a well-executed event that caters to the needs of both collegiate coaches and high school prospects, and we look forward to continuing to hold regional events as the sport continues to develop in the Midwest."

Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) managed the event for the IWLCA. Lee Corrigan, president of CSE, said, “Destination tournaments like the Midwest Cup attract the top national and regional talent in the sport. Women’s lacrosse continues to blossom as its popularity explodes across the country, and we witnessed some amazing talent in Aurora this summer.”

All winners of awards have been recognized in a special feature published in the November/December 2019 issue of Sports Destination Management. The entire article with full details on the winners listed below can also be found online.
