Lindsay Reese, Head Coach, Lock Haven University

IWLCA President Kathy Taylor announced that Lindsay Reese, head coach at Lock Haven University, has been named the 2019 winner of the Kristina Quigley Scholarship. This award honors the former Seton Hill coach, Kristina Quigley, who was tragically killed in a bus accident in 2013 while traveling with her team. The bus driver and Quigley’s unborn son also did not survive. The Kristina Quigley Scholarship will help offset the cost for Reese’s family to accompany her to the IWLCA Annual Meetings in Florida in November.

“It was exciting to share with Lindsay that she had been selected for the Kristina Quigley Scholarship this year,” said Taylor, who is also the head coach at Colgate University. “It’s clear that Lindsay values her commitment to her family and has worked hard to honor her family obligations while striving to be the best coach she can be. So many of our members juggle the responsibilities of home life and work life and being able to help Lindsay enjoy the best of both worlds this year at our Annual Meeting is a great way to honor Kristina Quigley’s legacy and keep her in collective consciousness.”

In her application for the scholarship, Reese wrote, “I had the pleasure of coaching against Kristina and becoming friends through the lacrosse coaching world. She was spunky, passionate, and loved her family and team more than anything. The 2013 season is one that I will never forget. I was pregnant with my first child, and on the road with my team the same snowy day that we lost Kristina. It was a hard lesson – that no day is promised. Even on the days where it feels like it’s impossible to do it all, I remind myself how blessed I am to have the opportunity to be both a mom and a coach.”

The Kristina Quigley Scholarship description reads, in part:

To honor the passion, commitment and values of Kristina Quigley, the IWLCA has established a scholarship in her name. The purpose of this scholarship will be to subsidize a trip to the location of the IWLCA Annual Meeting for the recipient’s family. The time-intensive nature of the coaching profession is significant and family time is often sacrificed. The opportunity for a family to join a coach on this trip represents the very essence of Kristina Quigley.

Reese was selected by the Kristina Quigley Scholarship committee based on her essay response detailing her “passion for coaching and family,” and describing “what it would mean to have your family with you at the IWLCA Annual Meeting.” After being informed of her selection, Reese said: “I am so grateful for this opportunity to bring my family with me to Florida in Kristina Quigley’s name. My family and lacrosse are two of the most important things in my life and having the opportunity to travel with my family while working is something we will never forget! Thank you to the IWLCA for providing this opportunity for my family to make memories that will last a lifetime.”

The 2019 IWLCA Annual Meetings will be held November 20-22 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. Reese will travel with her husband Mike, and daughters Ainsley (6) and Piper (3) to Florida.
