Delaware State University, Assistant Coach (F/T)

The Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach assists the Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach in directing all activities of the program within NCAA, MEAC, and DSU policies, guidelines, and procedures.  The Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach is responsible for maintaining high academic standards to support the academic development and graduation of student-athletes while focused on student-athlete welfare; assisting in successfully directing the baseball program to compete for MEAC and NCAA championships; assisting in the recruitment of student-athletes and maintaining a culture of personal accountability in student-athlete academic performance and conduct; assisting in the planning and direction of all practices, travel, and game activities; assisting, as delegated by the Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach, in preparing and managing the administrative functions of the women’s lacrosse program; and assisting in community engagement and donor relations by promoting the women’s lacrosse program within the priorities of the Department of Athletics.

 

Essential Functions

The following are the functions essential to performing this job.

  • Successfully recruit, retain, develop, and graduate high-performing women’s lacrosse student-athletes
  • Assist with the preparation, organization, design, and implementation of effective practice plans, off-season programs, scouting reports and recruiting systems;
  • Effective and timely preparation and management of administrative functions related to the women’s lacrosse program;
  • Effective community engagement, donor, and public relations;
  • Consistent compliance with NCAA, MEAC, and DSU policies, rules, and regulations

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Knowledge in the operations and administration of a Division I women’s lacrosse team.
  • Two years of collegiate and/or professional coaching experience required.
  • Recruiting background preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, teaching, public relations, interpersonal, customer service and supervisory skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Qualification Standards

  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Expertise in technical and teaching aspects of coaching college women’s soccer
  • Two years of collegiate and/or professional coaching experience required.

Performance Standards

The criteria for evaluation in this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the DSU Fundamentals;
  • Effective interpersonal relationships and communication with student-athletes, support staff, community, alumni, and administration;
  • Sound fiscal management and stewardship of program resources;
  • Consistent compliance with NCAA, MEAC, and DSU policies, rules, and regulations;
  • Preparation, organization, design, and implementation of effective practice plans, off-season programs, scouting reports and recruiting systems;
