Whitman College, a member of the NCAA Division III, and the Northwest Conference is seeking an Assistant Lacrosse Coach. The College’s varsity women's lacrosse program, the newest addition to the varsity roster, is in its fifth year. The Assistant Coach will be instrumental in building a unique team culture for the program, supporting student athletes, developing community relationships, and growing the game of Lacrosse in the Northwest. The full time 12-month position, is partially funded by a 2-year NCAA Division III Coaching Enhancement Grant, and includes salary, benefits package, and professional development stipend. This grant is designed to provide financial assistance to the division’s member institutions that are committed to enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in newly created assistant coaching positions for any NCAA sponsored sport.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to assisting the head coach in all aspects of coaching, practice and game preparation, strategy, and recruitment of prospective student-athletes, travel planning and other administrative duties assigned by the head coach.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Individuals must be able to explain and/or demonstrate that they possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job.
1. Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and the ability to identify and recruit qualified student-athletes, including the ability to communicate effectively with recruits, parents, and coaches.
2. Outstanding skill instruction, ability to motivate players in both a practice setting and competitive games, and the capacity to teach in a varsity setting.
3. Appreciation for the role of intercollegiate athletics in a highly selective academic environment, and the desire to help student-athletes strive for balance in that rigorous setting.
4. Strong administrative and computer skills, as well as excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Bachelor’s degree and coaching experience at the college level, or equivalent significant high school/club coaching experience is preferred. Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be highly motivated, have the ability to work independently and in team settings, have sound judgment and decision-making ability in all aspects of the growth of the women’s lacrosse program.
