This summer fans attending the IWLCA Champions Cup in Midlothian, VA are in for a treat, as the WPLL will hold a special game at the tournament. Two WPLL teams consisting of some of the world’s top players will be take the field in a special game supporting the WPLL Foundation, a non-profit that supports the personal and professional development of female lacrosse players. Admission to the game will be free, with optional donations being collected for the WPLL Foundation.

“Some of the top teams in the country play at Champions Cup and many players in attendance may one day become professional lacrosse players,” explained WPLL Commissioner Jen Adams. “Partnering with the IWLCA and bringing the WPLL Foundation game to Champions Cup gives today’s youth players an opportunity to see how far the game of lacrosse can take them. Lacrosse doesn’t have to end after college, and we are excited to introduce some of the nation’s top youth players to the WPLL brand of lacrosse.”

“Together we can increase the visibility of our sport and connect our pros to that next generation of players. A significant amount of our pro players are college coaches and we want to support them by bringing the game to one of the largest recruiting events of the year” says WPLL Founder and CEO Michele DeJuliis

"We are very excited to work with the WPLL to promote professional women's lacrosse and offer our Champions Cup participants with the opportunity to watch the game played by the best of the best,” said IWLCA President Kathy Taylor, who is also the head coach at Le Moyne College. “Supporting our own members in their professional lacrosse careers while helping to grow the game by promoting the development of female lacrosse players is a win-win for us."

The WPLL Foundation provides a framework for women to pursue excellence in lacrosse and develop skills to become more physically, emotionally, and mentally fit. Some key events that the WPLL Foundation takes part in are the WPLL Futures program and Pro Days designed to help WPLL pros hone their professional skills.

“Lacrosse develops so many skills in the women that play it,” says WPLL Foundation COO Rachael DeCecco. “The WPLL Foundation provides players with workshops, seminars, and exercises designed to help them transition the leadership, teamwork, and confidence they develop on field into tangible ‘real-world’ skills that they can use in the workforce. The WPLL Foundation is excited to partner with the IWLCA and introduce Champions Cup attendees to the Foundation’s mission.”
