IWLCA Awards Central

The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association proudly recognizes the achievements that define excellence in our sport. Through a distinguished awards program, the IWLCA honors the coaches, student-athletes, and teams whose dedication, leadership, and performance exemplify the highest standards of women’s lacrosse. Explore the awards below to celebrate those who have made a lasting impact on the game.

Athletic Awards

 

Player of the Year and Positional Players of the Year

Four All-American student-athletes from each Division are selected as positional Players of the Year. Each Division’s All-American committee has also selected one of these honorees as the Player of the Year for each Division.

All-American Teams

Selection is based on the following criteria: Statistics, Contribution to team success, Strength of Opponents, Sportsmanship and Character. The IWLCA All-Americans represent the best athletes in our game, who compete with respect for the sport of lacrosse, their teammates, their coaches, their opponents and officials.

All-Region Teams

Selection is based on the following criteria: Statistics, Contribution to team success, Strength of Opponents, Sportsmanship and Character. The IWLCA All-Americans represent the best athletes in our game, who compete with respect for the sport of lacrosse, their teammates, their coaches, their opponents and officials.

Senior All-Star 

44 players that have exhausted their athletics eligibility are selected from each Division and are divided into two teams: North and South, to compete in the Senior All-Star game each year.

Players of the Week 

The IWLCA Player of the Week awards recognizes outstanding individual performances across all divisions and the NAIA throughout the season. Players are nominated for making a significant impact on the field.

Community Awareness Awards

The Community Awareness Award recognizes those student-athletes and teams who have contributed significantly to their community in a given academic year. These students have given their time and energy to support and develop athlete-community relations and have distinguished themselves from their peers. Both individual and team honorees from each Division are recognized.

Diane Geppi-Aikens Memorial Award

The Diane Geppi-Aikens Memorial Award honors lifetime achievement to the college women’s game. Renamed for the former Loyola head coach who inspired the nation with her courageous battle with cancer, this award is presented to that person who has distinguished themselves through their service to intercollegiate women’s lacrosse during their career.

Hall of Fame Members

 A collegiate women’s lacrosse coach is eligible for nomination to the IWLCA Hall of Fame if he/she meet both the Eligibility Criteria and a minimum of two of the five Achievement Criteria.

IWLCA Service Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize one IWLCA member each year for their contributions to the IWLCA during the previous academic year. Honorees do not have to be head coaches or committee chairs.

Outstanding Assistant Coach

The purpose of Outstanding Assistant Coach Award is to recognize an assistant women’s lacrosse coach from each Division who has made a distinct impact on the success of their program during the previous academic year. Their impact is demonstrated through hard work, commitment, dedication, and sportsmanship.

Presidents Cup

The President’s Cup is presented to a member of the lacrosse community who has exhibited distinguished contributions to the collegiate women’s lacrosse scene during the previous academic year. The honoree does not have to be an IWLCA member.

Tina Sloan Green Award

The Tina Sloan Green Award recognizes those individuals and teams that have actively worked to promote equity and inclusion in the lacrosse community in a given academic year. We celebrate those that have given their time and energy to educate and raise awareness, remove barriers, enhance opportunities, and invite a diverse set of voices to the table in order to challenge discrimination and promote positive social change. The selection committee may choose to recognize an individual or team honoree each year.

Trailblazers

On October 21, 2017, the IWLCA and USA Lacrosse dedicated plaques along the Chris Sailer Trail at US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland to honor eleven women's lacrosse Trailblazers.

Victory Club

The IWLCA honors women's lacrosse coaches that achieve milestone career victories (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, etc.) at the Annual Convention held in November.

Coach/Coaching Staff of the Year 

The IWLCA Coaching Staff of the Year Award honors one National and multiple Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year from each NCAA Division and a National Coaching Staff of the Year from the NAIA. Ahead of the 2024 season, the IWLCA Board of Directors approved changing the name of this award to recognize the entire coaching staff, rather than individual coaches.

Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Honors the top student-athlete in the NCAA Division I, II, and III and the NAIA. Nominees for the award must be a senior or graduate student, have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, and be a starter or significant reserve for their team.

Academic Honor Roll

To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Academic Honor Squad

To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women’s lacrosse team must have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

Academic Merit Squad

Is a designation awarded to the team in each division with the highest team GPA for the academic year.

IWLCA Coaches Poll

The IWLCA Coaches Poll highlights the top programs in Division I, II, and III women’s lacrosse as determined by votes from member head coaches. Each poll ranks the Top 25 teams and also notes teams receiving votes that fall within a specific qualified margin.
