The Q&A document to the right addresses some frequently asked questions regarding the new lacrosse recruiting legislation (September 1 of junior year as the initial date for ALL recruiting contact).
Effective TODAY, June 12, recruiting conversations at camps or clinics before September 1 of a prospective student-athlete's junior year are not permissible. This is "modification of wording" to the NCAA lacrosse early recruiting legislation passed on April 14, 2017. This modification was just approved by the Division I Council on Friday, June 9, 2017.
What this means: no recruiting contact with a lacrosse PSA or his/her family anywhere, by any means, before September 1 of junior year.
This is a "bright line rule" intended to set a clear point in time when recruiting contact may begin in lacrosse.
Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly on this issue over the past three years! The early recruiting proposal was adopted by the NCAA Division I Council on April 14 and became effective immediately. We have also confirmed the following information with the NCAA:
As more information becomes available, including official NCAA interpretations, we will share that information with the lacrosse community.
We have received confirmation via email from the NCAA that the Division I lacrosse early recruiting proposal became EFFECTIVE FRIDAY, APRIL 14. An official interpretation should be forthcoming.
This means that all recruiting contact begins September 1 of a prospective student-athlete's junior year. Any recruiting contact with younger PSAs is impermissible under the new rule.
This is different than most of the measures passed by the NCAA Division I Council that will become final at the close of the NCAA Board of Governors meeting on April 26.
