The 2017 IWLCA JUNK Brands Champions Cup was held this weekend at three facilities in the Chesterfield County, VA area. The River City Sportsplex, Clover Hill Athletic Complex and Ukrop/Stratton Parks hosted over 12,000 participants and spectators during the three-day event.

According to Laura Cook, head coach at Sacred Heart University, "We're always excited to return to the Champions Cup tournament every year. This year was no exception - great talent, great facilities, and great organization!" Over 636 games were played on 27 fields across the three complexes.

A total of 5,967 prospective student-athletes from 317 club teams from across the country participate in the recruiting tournament, where they have the opportunity to be evaluated by coaches representing more than 235 collegiate programs competing at the NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA levels. Miriam Esber, head coach at Mt. Holyoke College, explained that the Champions Cup makes it easy for her program to recruit: "All three facilities are great athletic complexes that guarantee I can watch every player I need to see. I can really maximize the number of evaluations in a short time period, and the level of play is always great."

The Champions Cup is the second event in the summer recruiting series managed by Corrigan Sports Enterprises. Next up will be the JUNK Brands Midwest Cup on July 8-9 in Rockford, IL, followed by the STX Capital Cup, which is back in Chesterfield County from July 13 - 16, 2017.
