The IWLCA STX Capital Cup Tournament kicked off on Thursday in Virginia, with games taking place at the River City Sports Complex and the Clover Hill Athletic Complex. Nearly 7,000 athletes competing in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 and Open divisions will participate in the four day event that concludes Sunday.

Colby College head coach Karen MacCrate, a first time attendee at the Capital Cup, said, "This tournament is great! I am so glad I was able to attend and get to see so many teams from all different regions."

Almost 450 coaches from over 300 NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA institutions are attending the event to evaluate prospective student-athletes. Shannon Hertz, head coach at Bloomsburg University, said "The IWLCA STX Capital Cup is one of my favorite tournaments to attend in order to evaluate student-athletes because you know you are recruiting at a well organized and planned event. The Capital Cup caters to what the college coaches want to see: they provide full games on regulation size fields and offer multiple chances to see student-athletes play. The recruiting process can be challenging because we try to see so many student-athletes play from all across the country. This tournament gives us the opportunity to see hundreds of student-athletes compete over the course of four days."

The IWLCA STX Capital Cup is the final summer event in the IWLCA Recruiting Tournament Series. The next tournament will be the Brine President's Cup presented by New Balance. It will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and Lake Myrtle Sports Park from November 18-20, 2016 in Orlando, FL.
