FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)  President Alicia Groveston has announced the creation of a new Director of Communications position for the organization. After an extensive search process, the Board of Directors has hired Danie Caro to fill the new position. Caro has over 20 years experience in intercollegiate athletics, and was most recently the head women's lacrosse coach at Quinnipiac University.

"After long consideration and in response to a Duke Fuqua School of Business strategic plan analysis, the Board identified communications as an area of focus for the IWLCA. Therefore, we created the position of Director of Communications to help execute our mission and to enhance how we serve over the 1500 collegiate lacrosse coaches and 500+ lacrosse programs that make up our membership. The hiring process for this position highlighted the talents of one of our own: Danie Caro has an invaluable understanding of the history of this organization and the direction in which we are heading.  Her experience, insights and commitment to women's lacrosse are unparalleled. We are thrilled to have her as a part of our team once again," Alicia Groveston, IWLCA President and Head Coach at Grand Valley State University remarked.

Prior to her 10 years leading the Quinnipiac program, Caro completed head coaching stints at Stony Brook University, St. Bonaventure University, and Manhattan College, as well as assistant coaching stops at Colgate University and Frostburg State University. She is a 1993 graduate of Colgate University and also holds master’s degrees from Frostburg State University and Quinnipiac University.

“I am humbled to have been selected as the IWLCA's new Director of Communications and want to thank the hiring committee and the Board for their confidence in me,” Caro said. "The IWLCA was always a great resource and community of support for me throughout my coaching career, and I am excited to be in a position to help the organization continue to fulfill its mission and serve its membership. I look forward to to working with the current leaders and members  as the IWLCA continues to grow."

Caro  is no stranger to the IWLCA, as she served as a Division I member of the IWLCA’s Board of Directors for the past three years after having served as President of the organization from 2002-2008. She also has extensive volunteer leadership experience with US Lacrosse (USL), the national governing body for the sport, and with the NCAA. Caro served USL in several capacities, including as a member of the Women’s Game Committee and the Board of Directors, and she was a member of the inaugural NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Playing Rules Committee and served as chair from 2008-2011.

Gothard Lane, IWLCA Executive Director, had this to say about Danie Caro coming on board, “Danie’s love for the game of lacrosse and her belief in the mission of the IWLCA will serve her well as she continues to work with the association’s board and membership in this new capacity.” Mindy McCord, Division I Hiring Committee Member and Jacksonville University Head Coach, echoes that statement, "We are thrilled to have Danie's experience and passion to strengthen our organization and to help to meet the growing needs of our sport."
